7 Must-Do Steps Before Building Or Redesigning Your Website | Small Business Web Design Tips
December 14, 2023They're all going to laugh at you. Nobody's going to watch your videos. YouTube's already too saturated. You're not even funny. You'll never stand out. You should have started before the pandemic. You're way too old. Everyone you know is going to judge you, and they're going to hate the content you create. You're going to have lettuce in your teeth.
Hey everybody, I am Garik Goodell, owner of G Squared Studio. I've been building websites for clients and also coaching them on how to grow their businesses online for over 10 years now, since 2008. And I am passionate about living a happy and fun life where I get to do the things I want to do when I want to do them. And I'm tremendously passionate about trying to help my clients and other business owners and entrepreneurs be able to do the same. So that is why I do what I do and what I'm doing today is I am actually going to, for realsies start my YouTube channel. I've been coaching and guiding and suggesting to my clients for years to start a YouTube channel to create regular video content to grow their business, but I have not done that. So let's dive in to what I have done and what I'm going to do to change that.
I actually started my YouTube channel eight years ago when I just got out of, no, that's not right. I just got out of college. I'm not quite sure why I started at eight years ago. So though I started at eight years ago, I just two years ago started putting up content that is relevant to my industry. So I, two years ago put up my first video about creating websites. So far, I think I have about eight videos on my channel that are in the realm of what I actually should be talking about. And I'm a professional in, I think maybe I have 50 views on one of the videos. I have about 16 subscribers, but I haven't really put much effort into using those videos to grow on YouTube or to grow my business. To be real honest, I have made almost every single one of probably actually every single one of those videos to be a presentation that I've done in my business networking group.
So I was like, well, I got to do a presentation. We meet online. I might as well record a video and then it's win-win. It's also something I can put on my YouTube channel, but now I'm going to create a one video a week that is specifically for YouTube. I'm not going to lie, I might utilize some of these as a presentation in my b and i chapter. So here are my goals. This is what I intend to do. Here's the plan. I got seven steps. Just so you know, I use seven a lot because G is the seventh letter of the alphabet. So there's lots of sevens throughout my business. So the plan number one, I'm going to create one video a week consistently. Number two, this is actually more important than number one. I'm going to make sure every video I create is providing value.
Number three, throughout this process, I'm going to learn to get better at this. If you watch some of my old videos, I'm going to be a little embarrassed, but I'm not going to pull 'em down. If you watch this video, I'm sure I'll be embarrassed by this in like three, four or five months, maybe a year, because I'm going to get better at this as I do it. So I'm not going for perfection. I'm going for momentum. I'm going for value. So as long as I'm providing value, I don't need to be perfect. As long as I'm gaining something personally and gaining momentum in my business, I also don't need to be perfect. Okie dokey. Actually, I just jumped ahead. That was number five. We'll rewind. But number five is don't focus on perfection. Focus on value. As you can see, I'm not being perfect right now.
I'm jumping all over my list. Who knows where I'm going to go next? So number three was get better at YouTube. And I'm going to share my journey with you, and I'm going to show you the behind the scenes of how it goes. It's very possible this isn't going to go well. My little intro said all my fears, it's oversaturated. People are going to judge me. Who's going to watch my videos? Oh, I didn't say that one, but I should have. But I'm going to do it. I'm going to put it out there and I'm going to move forward. Okay, back to the list. Number four, I'm going to set goals along the way. My first goal I'm setting today is to get 1000 subscribers by my birthday, which is May 2nd. So I have about six-ish months to get 1000 subscribers. I think it's doable.
I looked up the statistics of YouTube. It typically, I got a couple different numbers, but one said it takes 15.5 months for the average YouTube channel to get to a thousand subscribers. I have vastly exceeded that already, but I'm starting fresh today. So this is when it actually starts. Let's see if I can get to 1000 subscribers in six months. Number five, we went over that. I'm not going to focus on perfection. I'm going to focus on providing value, and I'm going to focus on building momentum in my skills and in my business in my marketing. Number six, I'm going to be doing videos in three categories. One is tips and tricks and things around building websites for small businesses. How to utilize a website to help your small business grow. That's number one. Number two is around content coaching. Creating regular content can be a challenging thing, especially when you're focusing on to utilize it to grow your business.
So that's my second topic. I'm going to be sharing my tips and tricks and things I do to make sure I have a plethora of subjects to talk about and how I go about that process to create regular video content, which I'm doing now for realsies. And number three, as I mentioned earlier, this is going to be, some videos are going to be like a behind the scenes. How is my YouTube growth happening? Is it happening? Is it not happening? Am I stalling out what videos are working, what videos aren't working? As I get better at those things, I'm going to be sharing that with you so you can see it behind the scenes to see is it worth it to start creating the YouTube channel in late 2023 or not? I believe it is. That's why I'm doing this, and you should too. And if you want some motivation to do it, hopefully watch my channel, hopefully watch me blow up.
Maybe not blow up, but watch me grow and it will inspire you to do the same. And number seven, truly the most important of them all. Boom. Number seven, I'm going to have fun along the way. I'm going to have a good time. I'm going to bring the energy as I do this, and we're going to have a great time growing this channel together and you coming along for the ride and watching and getting value on how to grow your small business so you can live the life you desire. So there we go. So that's the conclusion I told you where I'm at today, 16 subscribers, 10 videos really, but eight on the proper subject matter. Been up there for about two years, but we're going to change the game in the next six months. I'm going to get a thousand subscribers. I'm going to go from 16 to a thousand, maybe 1,016.
Maybe that's a more appropriate goal. That's it. I'm going to go from 16 to 1,016. I'm excited to do this. I'm excited to take people along on this adventure with me. I'm excited to truly live what I have been telling people to do. I know parents, you can relate to this. We've all heard the do as they say, not as they do. I've been doing that in my business. I've been telling people to do what I say now. I'm going to be able to share with people, do as I do, do as I'm doing, watch what I'm doing, watch how it's helping my business grow and so forth. So if you're interested in that or if you're interested in seeing how this goes, feel free to please subscribe or this video, I know that's the things to do or smash that like button as they say. Hit the little bell if you want to be notified. Appreciate you being here. I hope you have a great day and super great success in your business and in life, and I look forward to seeing more of you here on the channel. Okay, have a good day.
